soul-searching and news from the other side
Twitter announced new security settings today after months of high-profile hacking cases including the false Tweet sent out from The Associated Press account claiming that President Obama was injured in an explosion at the White House. The Tweet was taken so seriously that the Dow Jones industrial average abruptly plummeted more than 150 points.
The new authentication feature can be enabled in the Twitter settings menu for any account that has both a confirmed email address and a verified phone number. Once activated, users need to enter a six-digit code sent via phone after signing in with a username and password. Twitter shared a video on YouTube explaining the entire authentication process:
The service is currently in the process of being rolled out, so all users should have it soon.
